3in1 face mist review: Sana Quzulan Gelo Make Keep Mist UV Oil Block

Today I've got for you a review of an very interesting Japanese product which I bought from the owner of My Asian Skincare Story blog - the bog owner had a little clear out and was selling cosmetics that didn't suit her/that she had too many of.

Product description: Make up finishing spray that uses triple benefit system: extends the wear of make up by absorbing excess sebum, keeps skin firm and hydrated and features high broad spectrum sun protection. Can be used over make up as needed to set up makeup, refresh skin and touch-up skin application.

Product contains two chemical sunscreens: Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine also known as Tinosorb S and  Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate also known as Octinoxate. It also contains extract from Saxifraga Sarmentosa (also known as Strawberry Saxifrage or Creeping Rockfoil), which has skin brightening and antioxidant properties and extracts from red, brown and green algae, which has antioxidant and moisturising properties and are rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

For some reason Ratzilla describes the product as a "Guzulan" - I can clearly see "Q" there and the bloger that I bought it from also called it "Quzulan", but I don't know who is right here.

The product is in a plastic 40ml bottle with atomiser. It's small and handy, perfect to carry around in the handbag. It has quite strong, synthetic lemon scent.

Triple function: make up setting, sebum control and UV protection. Face of the person producing sebum = priceless

There are multiple ways to use this product, you can use it both before and after make up. Before as you sunscreen and sebum protection, after as make up setting spray and extra sunscreen. Quzulan has SPF40 PA+++, but mind that to maintain this level of protection you would need to apply approx. 1,5ml which in case of mist would get your face quite wet. Because getting wet in your make up is not what you would really want I apply less of it, therefore I don't use it as my only UV protection, just as an addition. You should reapply sunscreen every couple of hours, which may be difficult to do when you wear make up and this is when Quzulan comes handy. However be warned that in opposite to typical make up settling spray, which is usually a clear liquid fine mist, this is actually a watery lotion that leaves white droplets on the skin. When I first used it I almost had a heart attack, my face was covered in white drops!

Luckily my makeup haven't dissolve :) you need to wait approx. two minutes for spray to settle and dry, but make up is untouched. However Quzulan leaves face quite shiny.

It looks quite nice and glowy on my palm, but on my face effect is way too strong and gives impression of greasiness, so I always mattify it with some powder.

Now a little make up resistance test:

After two minutes: Quzulan has dried and left skin shiny, lines are untouched and not smeared

As you can see Quzulan won't ruin your eye make up, the same goes for BB Cream/Foundation - in case of BB/foundation you can even pat it your skin gently for mist to dry quicker and your make up will still be in place.

As for the performance - what I like the most about this product is that even tough it contains alcohol it doesn't dry my skin out and doesn't leave tight feeling. I have make up setting spray from Avon, after which I feel like I sprayed my face with hair spray - dry and stiff. With Quzulan I don't have this problem, actually after it dries I don't feel it on my skin at all. Apparently you can also use Quzulan despite of blotting papers - I have tried and it does indeed absorb some of the oil from skin, but I still prefer to use blotting paper first and then refresh my face with spray. It's true that it extends make up wear, prevents cakeing and make up disappearing (some BB creams seem to just vanish after few hours) + it offers a bit of coolness and refreshment during the day. The lemon scent, even though it's obviously synthetic doesn't bother me, topped up with my orange powder pact makes me all citrusy :P did you know that citrus scent stimulate your subconscious suggesting cleanliness? This is why so many cleaning products have lemon scent :)

The only problem with this product is actually getting hold of it. It is not available on Rakuten, e-Bay or Amazon, so I don't even know how much it really costs. But do not fear! I have contacted Aga, Polish lady living in Japan, who has her own on-line shop Berdever. Aga said that she will try to introduce Quzulan in her shop. Summary: It's a very interesting and useful product and I'm glad I got hold of it. If you can get it, it's definitely worth trying!

Shiseido Anessa Whitening UV Protector A+ SPF50+ PA++++ Review

UV rays are not good for our skin, so we should use UV filters to protect ourselves. We know that, yet still many of us decides to ignore this knowledge and just rely on low SPF included in moisturisers or make up products. I was like that myself and for a very long time I was relaying on BB Cream's SPF only, but the ugly truth is that we simply don't put enough of BB/CC Cream on our skin to make the SPF work properly. I knew that, but I still resisted the idea of using separate sunscreen, as I got oily skin and I was afraid of putting an extra product on it. Especially that sunscreen brings to my mind greasy lotions that my mum used to slash over me on the beach when I was a kid... but some reviews on Asian skincare blogs proved me wrong. Thanks to one of the Polish skincare blogs, Green Tea Love I decided to cure myself from ignorance and buy my first UV-blocker. It was meant to be Hada Labo UV Whitening Emulsion, but before I managed to order it, the owner of My Asian Skincare Story blog started a little jumble sale - selling of products that she didn't like or had too many of. That's where I spotted Anessa UV protector. The blog owner described it as a suitable for oily skin and it includes my favourite skincare promise of whitening... so there was no other way, I had to have it!

Product description: Sunscreen 2in1 milk that protects skin from signs of ageing and dark spots and acts as make up base. It contains Shisheido-developed M-Tranexamic Acid which suppresses melanin production and prevents freckles and dark spots. Milky formula leaves skin soft and smooth, ready for make up application. Resistant to sweat and sebum, removable with face wash.

The main UV blockers in this product are chemical:  Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, also known as Tinosorb S and Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, also known as Octinoxate or Octyl methoxycinnamate. At the very end of ingredients list we will also find physical blocker: Zinc Oxide.

Product also contains moisturising hyaluronic acid, anti-inflammatory and cleansing thyme extract and turmeric root extract, which has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and skin brightening properties.

Product is in a plastic 60ml bottle. The bottle is sleek white opalescent pink - my favourite colour combination ^^ The milk has a pleasant scent, overall product leaves very good first impression of simplicity and neatness.

The milk has lightweight texture. After application I can still feel in on my face for a while, it needs a moment to absorb into skin. Once it gets absorbed my skin feels great - slightly moisturised, smooth and not shiny (I heard a lot of complaints about different sunscreens that they leave skin shiny). Anessa is giving almost matte finish to the skin - it's not a full matt, but slightly satin-like, very natural looking. It doesn't leave white cast on skin.

Now the best part - Annesa offers quite decent sebum control. As I said above, I was afraid to use UV blockers, because I thought they would increase my skin skin oiliness - however this product was a very pleasant surprise. The sebum control is not mind blowing, but enough to make me feel difference and because I didn't expect any sebum control it really impressed me.
Now for the doubling up as a make up base - well, it won't cover enlarged pores, but thanks to the sebum control, make up is able to look well on my skin for longer. However you must be careful with product choice, as not every BB Cream goes well with the sunscreen - for example Holika Holika Petit Clearing BB is oxidising terribly applied on top of anything. Fortunately ma favourite Tony Moly Petite Cotton BB creates a nice duo with Anessa, Maybelline Satin Liquid Foundation also performs well. Unfortunately I cannot use one of my favourite BB's Lioele Dollish Veil Vita on top of the sunscreen. Because it contains pigment capsules, it requires rubbing skin during application to achieve the right colour. However bear in mind that if you apply anything on top of your filter you shouldn't rub, just gently pat, otherwise you may rub your protection off!

Summing up: I feel really lucky that I could start my adventure with sun blocks with such a good product. It definitely encouraged me to try other Asian sun blocks and if any new sunscreen fails me, I will have that one to come back too. Highly recommended product :)

If you plan to buy it, pay attention to bottle's appearance and product description - my version is the newest one, formula has changed in 2014. The older version has pink bottle and lover protection - SPF32 PA+++.

Anessa has couple of different sun blocks to choose from - if you search for "Anessa" on Amazon or Rakuten you may see both bottles and tubes. The main difference is that products in bottles have milky texture, while products in tubes are gels.

Skin Food Peach Sake Pore Serum

This product is recommended by many bloggers for oily skin. I couldn't wait to test it and finally there it is!

Product description: Containing rice sake, peach extract rich in vitamins A and C, and silica powder, this soft essence minimises shine and the appearance of pores. 

Key ingredients:

• Titanium Dioxide - UVA and UVB filter
• Chamomile - well known skin soothing ingredient
• Licorice Root Extract - has anti-inflammatory properties and has ability to interrupt the stimulation of an enzyme that activates melanin production, so it's effective for improving dark spots and hyperpigmentation

Ingredients analysis [HERE]

The full size product is 45ml glass bottle with pump applicator. I was using sample sachets bought in pack of 8. One sample sachet lasts for approx. 4 uses.

As other peach products from Skin Food (Peach Pore Pact, Peach Green Tea BB, Peach Sake BB) this products has absolutely gorgeous peachy smell - however I can smell something bitter in it as well, just like someone would add some orange peel into it. Still yummy though ^^

Serum has consistency of very light cream. It spreads easily on the skin and we don't need much for the whole face. After application skin feels smooth but a little bit powdery - I suppose that powder touch is the secret of this serum's oil control.
Mentioning oil control - this works pretty good, but in different way that I was expecting. I thought it will help my skin stay matte for longer, bu no - it got shiny after my standard time - 2-3 hours - however the amount of oil was reduced. Normally I have to use two blotting tissues for my face, while with this serum one is enough. I still have to blot at least twice at work, but thanks to the reduced amount of produced oil my make up doesn't melt so easily. Also pores are less visible. Nice!
The only downside of this serum is that it's not very serum-like to be honest, I would rather classify it as a "finishing cream" or primer. It's not moisturising itself and contains silicone, so moisturise the skin before the serum. It works well with Hada Labo Lotion or Snail Ampoule.

Price: the full size version from £7 on e-Bay, I bought set of 8 sample sachets for £3.

+ gorgeous smell
+ reduces sebum production 
+ reduces appearance of enlarged pores
+ a little goes a long way

Cons:
- doesn't really moisturise 
- the powdery feeling on the face can annoy some people

Overall, this is good product for oily skin, especially for warmer days. If you have an oily skin you must try it! Just remember to use moisturiser before the serum, if you appy it after the serum, moisture simply won't reach the skin because of the silicones.

Etude House AC Clinic Intense Trial Kit

I wasn't here for a while, so here you go: a well deserved, quite large review.

I came across quite few good reviews of anti-acne products from Etude Huse's AC Clinic, but couldn't decide which one exactly I should go for. Fortunatelly I came across this handy Trial Set - five samples of product for approx. £5, which according to seller should last for four weeks.

 Set contains: cleansing foam, toner, lotion, two spot products and a few cotton buds for application.

I am going to review products in the order they should be used.


AC Clinic Daily Acne Foam Cleanser

Poduct description: Formulated with Salicylic Acid, Triclosan* and Sandalwood Oil, Acne Foam Cleanser removes acne causing germs to keep your skin clean all day. AC Clinic line is formulated without  acne-inducing ingredients to promote clear skin.

*Triclosan is an antibacterial and antifungal agent.

The trial version is a 30ml tube, protected with foil. The full size product contains 150ml.

The foam itself looks and smells like my dad's old fashioned  shaving cream ;)

 It's a thick, pearlised-white cream, which turns into rich foam when spread on wet skin. A little goes a long way - pea size of product is enough to clean the whole face. It has very characteristic, medicine-like herbal scent - I personally don't find it unpleasent, but I know some people might.

Pros:
+ a little goes a long way - when other products ran out, this one seems to be never ending ;)
+ leaves skin nicely fresh and squeeky-clean

Cons:
- dries skin up a little bit
- I haven't notice any improvment on my acne

 Product description: Formulated with Salicylic Acid and Hinoki Cypress, AC Clinic delivers trouble care. Skin toner removes pore clogging residues. 

That's a strong stuff. Contains alcohol, which I can smell quite strongly among the herbal scent known from foam. I definetly wouldn't recommend this product to people with sensitive skin.

Pros:
+ cleans well, what we can see on a cotton pad...

Cons:
- dries up skin :(
- doesn't last for long - from all the samples, this one get used up quickest

AC Clinic Daily Gel Lotion

Product description: Formulated with Salicylic Acid and Hinoki Cypress extract, AC Clinic Gel Lotion clarifies and soothes troubled skin while maintain oil/moisture balance without aggravation.

AC Lotion is a lightweight moisturiser, white-ish, almost transparent. It has characteristic for this line herbal scent with a hint of alcohol (alcohol in a moisturiser?! Whyyyyy??!!). The application is annoying, because the bottle is hard and I can't squeeze the product out and shaking it out is also not very effective, so I ended up getting it out from the bottle with cotton bud.

The sample is 25ml, full size product 150ml.

Pros:
- absorbs quickly
- very lightweight, doesn't make skin oily
- moisturises a bit, but...

Cons:
- ...but not enough to make it the only mosturiser in my skin care routine, especially after drying foam and toner
- annoying application - what's interesting it doesn't improve in full size version, as it's glass bottle with casual cap and no pump or any other kind of applicator attached.

AC Clinic Intense Pink Powder Spot

Product description: Contains Salicylate acid, Retinispora, Chaga Mushroom, Houttuynia. Two level concentrate spot care with pink powder and water. Treats sensitive skin for clearer look. Non-artificial color, Non-comedogenic.

The product is a cloudy  liquid containing pink powder, which stays on the bottom of the bottle. Important: don't shake the bottle! It should be applied on spots with cotton bud, which is meant to go through the liquid before reaching the treating powder, to make sure application is hygienic. It leaves pink marks on the skin, so it's recomended to use during the night.

The sample contains 5ml, full size product is 15ml. The full size product is not available on it's own, but in a little kit with sample size Pink Powder Water, as the products are supposed to be used together.

Pros:
+ dries up quickly, so doesn't stain bedding
+ helps treating acne

Cons:
- because of pink marks I can't use it during the day
- doesn't last for long

AC Clinic Intense Pink Powder Water

Product description: Formulated with Salicylic Acid and Hinoki Cypress, Powder solution alleviates trouble swelling on contact to minimize damage.

The name of product may be confusing, as it's white not pink... It's also a cloudy liquid which splits into two layers just like the Pink Powder Spot, however in that case we have to shake the product before use. It is kind of a day version of Pink Spot Powder, as it not so visible on the skin:

However as it dries up it can leave white residue on a skin, which is annoying and hard to cover with make up.

The sample contains 5ml of Water, full size product is 45ml and it is availabe on it's own.

Pros:
+ not so visible on the skin as Pink Powder Spot

Cons:
- doesn't work as well as the Pink Spot
- sometimes leaves white residue on skin, which is hard to cover with make up.


Summary

Unfortunatelly I haven't notice much of improvement on my skin while using these products. I am a bit dissapointed, as usually my skin responds well to Salicylic Acid. Actually the only product from the Trial Kit which clearly worked was Pink Powder Spot, but I am not going for the full size version anyway. As it comes to efficiency, the only products that lasted four weeks were foam and lotion.

Skin Food Peach Sake Pore BB Cream

Another Skin Food product included in my "Big BB Cream Test" :)

Product description: A pore-refining BB cream that regulates sebum secretion while creating a flawless and matte complexion without feeling greasy.

Originally product comes in a tube with pump, cap. 30ml. I tested 2ml sample.

This cream is available in two shades: #1 Light Beige and #2 Natural Beige, I went for the lightest one, as always ;) I often have problems with deciding if cream has pink or yellow undertones, but in this case the yellow tones were obvious even for me. Picture dosn't show it so much, but I have to admit that colour freaked me out a bit ;) Fortunatelly it look alright on the skin. It's slightly more matte than average BB Cream, similary to Good Afternoon Peach Green Tea BB. However it is not a full matt, I was using a bit of powder on top of it.

 
The consistency is quite rare - I am used to something thicker, so I was struggling a little with application. Using make up sponge to apply is completly pointless - the sponge absorbs most of the cream, so during one application with sponge I used up almost half of my sample. My fingers didn't do a great job either, so I think for that one brush is the best option. This cream offers very natural look but quite poor coverage - just enough to cover blackheads and some of enlarged pores. Becouse of rare consistency it is hard to layer it in places that need more coverage. I didn't notice any improvements on my pores or sebum production. My face started to shine after approx. 2h, my standart time. Product has very nice peachy smell - on the begining I could also smell some alcohol in it (sake?), however now I don't feel it anymore, so I used to it or maybe it evaporated? The peach notes are nice accent to application and dissapear a moment after.
Cream has a SPF20 PA+.

Pros:
+ gives natural look
+ slightly matte
+ nice smell
+ cheap

Cons:
- too rare consistency
- poor coverage
- rolls up in wrinkles
- doesn't improve pores or sebum (promised on packaging)

Overall I like the natural look of it, but for my acne damaged skin the coverage is too light. I think it would do fine for people who have less to hide. So far I am not interested in getting a full size version

Skin Food Good Afternoon Peach Green Tea BB Cream

Today I am posting a review which took me really a lot of time to create. I just couldn't get this cream right...

Product description: An oil-controlling and skin-mattifying BB cream that keeps skin fresh and matte with vitamin-enriched peach extract and sebum-regulating green tea.

Product comes in casual squeezy tube (i call it 'casual' as very popular among BB creams is tube with little pump), cap. 30g. The tube is in cute cardboard packaging.

It's available in two shades, #1 Light Beige and #2 Natural Beige - I went for #1, which is perfect - looks bright, but healthy bright, not vampire pale ;)
Cream has a lovely peach smell.
The consistency is quite thick, so application may be a little problematic. It smudges when spreaded, so it's much better idea to pat it, however you must be careful as it's easy to put too much. Thanks to thick consistency you can easly layer it up, which guarantees us a good coverage, but unfortunatelly thicker layer doesn't look natural on skin. So i guess it could be alright for people who like more foundation-like look. I personally prefer natural look - if I have to choose between natural look with some of my scars visible or mask on a face with all my scars covered - I prefer the first one.

And here we comes to why I couldn't get this cream right - it just took me a while to find the right amount to apply. I also tried different ways of application - fingers, brush and sponge - and found out that sponge works the best, gives the most natural look.

Another thing about this BB you should be aware of is that it makes all dry patches and irregularities very visible. It helps you find some dry skins about which existence you had no idea. One day it made something very wierd and very cakey to my forhead. Yuck! Then I used scrub (it is not recomended to use scrub on acne prone skin very often...), tried once more and there it is - beautiful, evened out skin, ta-dah! So now i know, to just not use it if I haven't scrubbed for a while.

As it comes to the matte effect - it is indeed more matte that for example Missha, however it's not a full foundation-like matte, still glows skin a little bit.

I also didn't notice any sebum control - as usual, my skin began to shine after approx. 2 hours. After blotting skin looked alrgiht for the next couple of hours. But you must be careful during blotting, because this cream is quite easy to wipe off.

Peach Green Tea BB Cream has a SPF20 PA+.

Summing up, this BB Cream is not some kind of miracle. I think that my mistake were too high expectations. However it's not a bad product, considering low price. I am quite happy that I tried it out, but I am not sure if I will buy it again.
